World Rabies Day 2011 is just around the corner! Thanks to your ongoing support, together, we’ve mobilized 135 countries; educating 150 million people and vaccinating 5 million animals! We invite you to join us again this year as we continue to educate communities across the world about rabies prevention.
If you’re planning an event, please send-in your event submission as soon as possible through the World Rabies Day website. World Rabies Day Online Webinar, September 21-22, 2011
· Join us Sept 21-22, 2011 for the 2nd Annual World Rabies Day Webinar. The two day event will focus on canine rabies elimination; human rabies surveillance, prevention and intervention; wildlife rabies control; information and education campaigns and building sustainable programs. Day 1 (Sept 21) of the Webinar will concentrate on presentations from Asia, the Middle East, Europe and Africa. Day 2 (Sept 22) will spotlight talks from North America, Latin America and the Caribbean Regions. There is no cost to attend the Webinars but you must register in advance. Here you’ll find materials specifically designed for veterinarians, humane organizations, teachers, children, healthcare workers and pet owners. How can YOU get involved?
· Vaccinate your animals! Many veterinarians and health authorities are hosting low or no-cost vaccination clinics – check your local area.
· Help spread the word! Hang posters. Send a Health E-Card. Use Facebook, Twitter and Email to send educational messages to friends and family.
· Purchase WRD products or donate to support local rabies prevention projects. Even a small amount can make a huge difference around the world.
· Volunteer. Plan an event such as a “Run for Rabies” or contact your local or state health agency to find out how to get involved.
· Join our online community. Follow World Rabies Day In the News, on Facebook and on Twitter and tell a friend!
Latin America/Caribbean Award
· The Global Alliance for Rabies Control and the Pan American Health Organization / Veterinary Public Health / PANAFTOSA are hosting a competition for World Rabies Day in Latin America and the Caribbean. A PAHO certificate will be awarded to the winning teams. Click here for more information.
World Rabies Day Meetings and Conferences via Webcast
· 4th Annual Merial Rabies Symposium. Iowa State University, Saturday, September 24, 2011 from 8am to 5pm (Central Time). This Merial-sponsored Symposium is awarded annually to the Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association (SCAVMA) that has the highest percentage of students participate in World Rabies Day at their school. Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine won by having the highest percentage of students participate in their 2010 World Rabies Day event. Registration is free but limited. For those unable to attend in person, the Merial Rabies Symposium at Iowa State University will also be presented via Webcast. Click here to download the Webcast Registration Form
· Symposium on Human Rabies Prevention and Control. Saturday, October 22, 2011 from 8am to 3pm (Eastern Time). This symposium (immediately following the 22nd International Conference on Rabies in the Americas) will consist of presentations from rabies experts on rabies pathogenesis, current methods for rabies diagnosis in animals and man, rabies epidemiology and policies, rabies exposure risk assessment, and rabies pre- and post-exposure prophylaxis administration based on current recommendations. There is no cost to attend but space is limited to the first 100 registrants. For those unable to attend in person, the Symposium will also be presented via Webinar.
