KCCI organises investment conference

KARACHI (March 07 2010): Acting Governor Sindh, Nisar Ahmed Khoro has advised business community to come forward and establish agro based value added industries in the province. Speaking at the investment conference organised by Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Saturday, he assured that government would provide all possible facilities to the investors and encourage foreign investors to invest in the province.

He said that the province offers vast investment opportunist in packaging of fresh juices, preparing value-added produce from sugar cane, investment in agro based industrial; and other sectors. He emphasised the need of establish water desalination plants to utilise waste water for productive purposes.

The acting governor pointed out that water of Kinjer Lake is contaminated and it is unfit for human consumption. Efforts should be made to purify the water. He informed that the government has prepared a low cost housing scheme for the province besides converting Katchi Abadies in developed areas.

Leader of the Businessmen Group, Siraj Kassim Teli said that KCCI holding annual exhibition since last seven years and this year it will be held in the month of June. Criticising CNN and BBC, he said that they over play small incident occurred in Pakistan, which create negative impact in the mind of foreign investors.

Former President KCCI, Khalid Firoz said that over 600 multinational companies are working in Pakistan and doing lucrative business. Advisor to Chief Minister Sindh on Investment, Zubair Motiwala said that the province offer beast investment opportunists in LIVESTOCK, fisheries, DAIRY farming, agriculture products processing and packaging.

He said country could get uninterrupted power supply by utilising Thar coal for the next 30 years. By utilising Thar coal Pakistan can generate 200 MW power besides producing 50 MW power by use of wind energy, he added. He pointed out that Sindh coastal areas have natural shrimp farming sites, which can generate 70 percent profit by just utilising them in a systematic way.

Citing example of Iran, he said Iran has 1400 shrimp farms and earning huge foreign exchange. Consul General of Japan, Masaharu Sato said that Pakistan is a huge market and people are very hardworking. Tahir A Khan said that electronic media is a very potential area for investment. This sector has provided 10,000 jobs in Karachi alone.
